We launch the festival with a special night of poetry celebrating Yorkshire. Writers from the Write On Mexborough! group will perform work from their sequence of workshop sessions with poet Suzannah Evans. This will be followed by a poetry reading from Suzannah herself before everyone’s favourite Yorkshire wordsmith Ian McMillan finishes off the celebrations in his own unique style. Ticket price includes a pie ‘n’ peas supper.

Ian McMillan presents The Verb every week on BBC R3 and he’s a regular on several TV programmes. Ian’s verse autobiography is entitled Talking Myself Home (John Murray Publishing). He has been a poet, broadcaster, commentator and programme maker for over 25 years.
‘The John Peel of poetry’ – Alec Finlay.

Suzannah Evans
lives in Sheffield. Her debut collection Near Future was published by Nine Arches Press in November 2018. As a teenager she had an obsessive fear of the apocalypse which has informed and inspired many of her poems, and she still doesn’t know whether it’s best to plan responsibly for the future or party like it’s 1999.
