‘The Pike Project’ took place on the second day of the Ted Hughes Festival weekend, Saturday 24 June 2017, in the market on Mexborough High Street, and  later that evening at Mexborough Business Centre.

Lead artist Pete Olding took as the theme Hughes’s poem ‘Pike’.  Members of the public were encouraged to help paint an image inspired by Hughes’ words.  A large canvas was hung on the end of a market stall and the painting began, helped by sympathetic words coming from the ‘Democracy of Words’ collective close by.

In the evening, as people gathered for the performance at the Business Centre, people added to the image by hand-writing a single line from the Hughes poem.

The canvas was hung alongside other paintings as part of the Festival 2017 Art Exhibition.
