RSPB Adwick Washland

Furlong Road
Bolton upon Dearne
DN5 7FR

Saturday 1 July 2017
11am – 1.30pm

To mark National Meadows Day (and the close of the 2017 Ted Hughes Poetry Festival), Brian Lewis (Longbarrow Press) and poet Matthew Clegg lead a walk through Adwick Washland, a recent addition to the RSPB’s landscape portfolio. Clegg and Lewis will draw on their own and others’ work as they move through this compact but diverse wetland, their readings framed by a discussion of the history and ecology of this unique feature of the Dearne Valley.

Meet in the car park off Furlong Road (at the eastern end of the washland) for departure at 11am prompt. The car park is approx 150 feet north of the bridge that crosses the River Dearne, and approx 1000 feet west of the village of Harlington. If you’re travelling by train and disembarking at Bolton-Upon-Dearne, turn left on leaving the station, and walk down Lowfield Lane; the car park can be reached via the bridleway that runs on from Lowfield Lane to the eastern end of the washland.

The terrain is mostly level with good access throughout; we recommend that you bring suitable footwear.

Tickets: £5 (limited availability). To reserve your place, please book through our TicketTailor event page.
